5 Things to Clean Up Before Listing Your Huron County Property
Selling a property is about making a great first impression.
Before a potential buyer walks through the front door, they’ve already formed an opinion from the driveway, yard and exterior of the property. A property doesn’t have to be perfect, but a clean, well-maintained exterior can make a big difference.
If you’re getting a home, rental property or rural property ready to sell in Huron County, here are five areas worth taking care of before the listing goes live.

1. Clean Up the Yard
Overgrown areas, fallen branches, leaves, weeds and general yard debris can quickly make a property look neglected.
Take a walk around the entire property and look at it from a buyer’s perspective. Pay attention to areas around sheds, fences, gardens, outbuildings and the edges of the property.
A basic cleanup can make the property feel much more cared for without requiring a major landscaping project.

2. Get Rid of Unwanted Junk and Debris
Garages, sheds and exterior areas often become storage spaces for things that haven’t been used in years.
Old building materials, broken items, scrap, branches and other unwanted debris can take away from the appearance of the property.
Clearing these areas gives potential buyers a better idea of the space they’re actually purchasing.
For rural properties and larger lots, this can be especially noticeable.

3. Don’t Forget the Driveway and Walkways
Your driveway and walkways are some of the first things a potential buyer sees.
Dirt, mud, algae, stains and accumulated debris can make otherwise good surfaces look tired.
Depending on the surface and condition, a good cleaning or pressure washing can make a noticeable difference.
It doesn’t necessarily mean replacing anything. Sometimes it just means giving the existing property a proper cleanup.

4. Take Care of the Little Jobs
This is where many properties lose some of their polish.
Loose boards, minor exterior damage, neglected areas around the property or small cleanup jobs that have been put off can add up.
None of these jobs may be big enough to justify hiring a specialized contractor, but together they can make a property feel unfinished.
Before listing, make a list of those little jobs you’ve been saying, “I’ll get to that eventually.”
Now might be the time.
5. Do One Final Walk Around
Once the major cleanup is finished, walk around the property one more time.
Look at it as though you’ve never seen it before.
Ask yourself:
Is there anything lying around that shouldn’t be?
Are there visible branches or yard debris?
Does the entrance look clean and inviting?
Is the garage, shed and exterior areas reasonably organized?
Are there small repairs or cleanup jobs that stand out?
Is there anything that could make a buyer wonder what else has been neglected?
These small details can make a surprisingly big difference.
